Christine Murphy, President
A Cohasset resident for 40 years, Christine Murphy built a $300M international sales business for Xerox. Christine’s passion, constant drive and personal goal setting add extra dimensions to any challenge she seeks to undertake. Throughout her 38-year career, Christine devoted time to the community, serving on the board and then as the Vice President of the South Shore Community Center and as the coordinator for Xerox Community Involvement Program. She also served as an executive mentor with the Babson Women’s Entrepreneurial Network. Since 2012, Murphy has been an active member of the Social Service League of Cohasset, serving first as the Treasurer and as President for the past two years. In 2014, under the auspices of the Social Service League, Murphy co-founded and still serves as the Chair of the Safe Harbor Cohasset Prevention Coalition which was awarded a $625,000 federal grant while under her leadership.
Maria Mills, Vice President
Maria Mills has devoted her entire 34 year career to Xerox Corporation. She graduated from Ithaca College on a Sunday and went to work the next day, never looking back. Maria’s career path enabled her to develop cross-functional proficiency as she progressed from sales executive roles, to pricing managerial positions and currently to contract management for high-end Xerox products. Maria is a member of the Xerox Community Involvement Committee and has been a tireless volunteer on several town sports programs. Maria, a 28 year Cohasset resident takes full advantage of Cohasset’s offering, enjoying the beach and boating with her family. Maria is married to her husband, Curt and has two sons, Chris and John.
Stefenie Thieleman, Treasurer
Stefenie Thieleman began her career as a social worker serving senior citizens. She went on to varied professional experience in public and non-profit management, specializing in the areas of housing and education. She has consulted to the State Legislative Foundation and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, among others. In addition to the Social Service League of Cohasset, her Board appointments over the years included serving on the Health Planning Council for Greater Boston, the Boston Urban Mortgage Review Board, and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council. Her recreational passion is ocean rowing.
Helene Leib, Board Member
For over 30 years, Helene Lieb has been a practicing psychologist. Helene loves her job helping very brave people cope with challenging problems. In her spare time, Helene serves on the Cohasset Advisory Board, on the South Shore Health Systems Foundation Board and on the Board of Advisors for Artists for Humanity. Helene is the President of the Edward Lappen Foundation and serves as the Vice President of the Independent Therapist Board. She serves as the Affirmative Action Officer on the Democratic Town Committee and was the former chair of the Cohasset School Board. In her free time, she is actively engaged in outdoor activities.
Elinore Barrett, Board Member
Elinore Barrett has been an elder care advocate for the better part of her life. Presently, she owns and operates her family’s assisted living facility in Cambridge, MA. Elinore is also an active board member of the Cohasset Board of Elder Affairs, the Social Service League of Cohasset, and the Cohasset Farmers’ Market. She has enjoyed living in Cohasset for over 30 years, raising her 6 children here. In her “spare” time, Elinore trips the light fantastic while enjoying ballroom dancing.
Tana Carlson, Board Member
Tana Carlson, a 50 year Cohasset resident, is a former social worker which is where her interest in community service began. Tana enjoyed a wonderful expat experience while living in eastern Europe for several years. When she moved to Cohasset, Tana became a member of the Council of Elder Affairs and served as the Vice Chair. She currently sits on the Board of the Social Service League and is a Deacon in her church, Second Congregational Church in Cohasset. Tana has been married for 53 years to Paul Carlson. They have two sons and four wonderful grandchildren.
Michael Novak, Board Member
Michael Novak is a retired professor of Organizational Behavior, former Associate Dean of the College of Management at the University of Massachusetts Boston, and former organizational consultant. He and his wife, Jeanne, settled in Cohasset in 1984 where their two daughters, Brittany and Lara, were born and raised. Michael became an avid ocean rower with the Cohasset Maritime Institute on whose Board he served for many years. He enjoys photography, community involvement, and loves being a grandfather.
